As they say in golf, I'd rather be lucky than good. And that was exactly what we were when we stumbled upon the Western Screech Owl peering out of its roost/nest cavity. There is a very small spot on the trail from where the owl is visible - had we not stopped precisely where we did yesterday to look at a Black-throated Gray Warbler that was foraging near the cavity we would have never noticed the owl peeking its head out of the tree.
Can you find the roost/nest cavity - I barely can and I know where it is.
